What is OpenKernel?
A computer-science learning platform that makes the low-level stuff — how an operating system and a CPU actually work — approachable and playable, instead of a wall of jargon. It’s emoji-native, so the concepts come before the terminology.
Who is it for?
Anyone who can use a computer but has never seen what’s happening underneath — students, self-taught developers, and curious people who want the fundamentals most courses skip straight past.
Why “emoji-native”?
Because symbols you already understand lower the barrier. OpenKernel uses them to make registers, memory, and instructions legible at a glance — you grasp the idea first, then pick up the proper names for it.
How does it relate to CodeQuest?
CodeQuest teaches you to build things on the web. OpenKernel goes the other direction — down to how the machine runs them. Two ends of the same goal: understanding computers, not just using them.
