Why I Founded 3D3D
An industry gap analysis of current SaaS AI solutions, local on-premise computing needs, and the transition to marine manufacturing collectives.
The current tech landscape is dominated by centralizing forces. AI tools are rented as monthly subscriptions, processing user data on remote cloud platforms. Standard manufacturing relies on overseas factories with long shipping channels.
This model fails in practical environments. If you are operating on a factory floor or a sailboat 200 miles offshore, a server dropout or shipping delay is not a minor inconvenience — it is a project blocker.
The Sovereign Computing Gap
We founded 3D3D to build a local, decentralized alternative. We believe that tools should be owned, not rented. If you deploy an AI model, it should run on hardware you own, inside your building, without sending your source data to third parties.
The same logic applies to physical manufacturing. If a bracket breaks on your machine, you should be able to scan, edit, and print a replacement on-site within hours, utilizing shared open-source design files.
Our Dual Mission
3D3D coordinates software engineering and physical manufacturing:
- Sovereign Software: Creating AI kernels (like ORA) and IDEs (like VibCode) that compile and execute locally with zero cloud dependencies.
- Open Hardware: Designing, reverse-engineering, and printing custom marine and industrial components, returning the CAD models to the community.
